The lack of logistic support and elementary planning meant the lack
of food, medications, clothing, "housing" (example: the use of tents
during the Russian Winter), transport, arms and ammunition, etc. thus
weakening the soldiers. Many soldiers died from cholera, as well as
to the primitive medical practices possible on a battlefield, given
this lack of rational logistics. This was due to the incompetence of
governments and their class-structured military establishments.
