Flats or movable wings painted with scenery in perspective.
The part of the flats the audience sees are above the stage
and move along grooves. A part of the flats are also under
the stage and are connected with two systems of ropes and
pulleys to a winch. Turning the winch in one direction pulls
the flats from the side of the stage towards the stage center,
simultaneously from left and right stage. Turning the winch in
the other direction pulls the flats from the stage center
simultaneously from left and right center stage towards the
sides of the stage. Thus scenery changes are effected in a few
moments.
