Esther M. Zimmer Lederberg: Alto Recorder

Esther, playing in a concert at Stanford that was attended by researchers
(January 1968)

Esther loved Early Music. The Early Music orchestra used recorders, krummhörns, shawms, cornetts, sackbuts, viola da gambas, lutes, dulcimers, hand organs, harpsichords, drums, etc. Indeed, the quality of the sounds of these instruments is a distinctive feature of Early Music. Early music was often very lively and was played along with singing, and dances such as galliards, branles, and estompes.

The background music for this web page features the Mid Peninsula Recorder Orchestra (MPRO) in concert in 2004, playing a piece by the composer Schmelzer. Esther is one of the recorder players.
